Good Shepherd

“Like a shepherd he feeds his flock, in his arms he gathers the lambs, carrying them in his bosom, leading the ewes with care.” – Isaiah 40: 11

Who are the lambs that need God’s love?  Consider the two paintings below by artist Shelby Prindaville, Art Program Director here at the University of Saint Mary.  Her art stems from her interest in preserving nature and reconnecting people with the beauty and fragility of often overlooked fauna and flora.  In Advent, we recall that God has not forgotten God’s people.  Christ’s coming is an act of deep love; God connects with us on the deepest level of humanity.  God has not overlooked us, but has been a shepherd to us.  Have we done the same to each other and to our world?

Advent is a time when we remind ourselves of God’s love in preparation for Christ’s coming.  Look at these paintings and ask yourself, what have you overlooked, and what have you found?
